You think wrong. You ever notice the MANIFOLD vacuum line that goes to the regulator???? Well, VERY OFTEN, the regulator diaphram rips internally and allows fuel to be sucked through the MANIFOLD vacuum line and into the intake causing FLOODING on all cylinders and long crank times.

Hey guys I'm also having the same problem on my 97 firebird. I have changed the fuel filter and spark plug, it's doing the same thing. In the morning that I start it up it start up like I was holding down the gas pedel. It's been bothering me and want to get to the source. Would auto zone check it for free and if its the fuel pump how much am I looking at for a new one????

fuel pump. Happend to my 95 Blazer. replace it, problem fixed & forgotten. Not sure on the price of a replacement one, but it's worth it to spend $65 at a dealership to verify problem on there diagnostic machines.

its also likely that the regulator is leaking past the check valve to the return line. checking for a leaky diaphram is easy with a vacuum hand pump. if it doesnt hold vacuum its bad. if it does, put a fuel pressure gauge (one for fuel injection -- needs to go to atleast 60psi) on the fuel rail and see if the system holds pressure.

i am having similar problems.. i tried replacing an injector that was leaking externally. It helped my starting time. It still takes 3-4 secs.

Let us know what you determine caused your starting problems.
