    Re: Zero oil pressure

If it's making top end noise it may be the oil pump is dead, but really even if we were to hear the noise it would be hard to tell what state the engine is in without tearing it up. You need to make sure it actually has oil in it then crank it up and check the pressure with a pressure gauge. If it's actually getting oil pressure (sensor is bad) and there is still noise it's probably time for a new engine unless you're really low on oil or something stupid like that. If it has no oil pressure and it's making noise then change out the oil pump and see if the noise goes away. Either way don't just replace the oil pump before you know what the problem is...

      Re: Zero oil pressure

I spent ~$1000 rebuilding my engine after I spun a bearing; this included gaskets, rings, bearings, crankshaft, valve job, the whole 9 yards. Once that one blew up I jumped on craigslist and found a like new one for $500 (25K miles). Bought it, swapped it in, and am currently running on it.

        Re: Zero oil pressure

I drained the oil, no metal to be found.

Is there any way to test for a blocked oil filter? The oil was changed about 200 miles ago, so the filter is pretty new.

Oil level is where to was supposed to be.

Remove it and put a new one on, cut the old one open and look at the filter media.

go and get some cheap oil filter from the gas station and use it, if your problems go away, you know it was the problem, then you can change your oil and put a good filter on.. spending an extra $20 is better than forking over $500 at the very least for a new engine

                Re: Zero oil pressure

Already have the new oil filter, plus a mechanical oil gauge. I'll install them tomorrow and see if the engine is actually getting oil.

                    Re: Zero oil pressure

Well, installed mechanical gauge in place of electronic one and new filter + oil.... no oil pressure. Zip, zilch, none.

So, I was basically confirmed, no oil pressure is not a faulty gauge, it was not a blocked oil filter. So, replace/rebuild (whatever it is) oil pump now?

yeah, it has to be the oil pump, unless you have a blockage somewhere in the oil passages

i would replace the oil pump personally, i would find myself hard to trust a rebuilt one.. but in reality, i have absolutely NO idea how these oil pumps work on DIS's

This is all I have found, is repair kits.

I think the oil pump is "part" of the crank in the DIS motors.

No, the oil pump is driven by crank. Not part of it.

Okay, thanks :) From the looks of it is "surrounds" the crank, I wasn't sure how the crank actually looked.

No, It looks more like the pump in a turbo 350 transmission.
