• car dies with 90 degree turns

3 times in one day
both left and right turns seem to do it. this happened only at 90 degrees turns so i wasnt hauling azz or anything i was actually slowing down to make the turn. the check gauges light comes on and the car dies right in the middle of the turn.
anybody have any ideas?

it is so scary when your car doesnt

That is really wierd dude, is your car a manual or automatic? I have hurd of some SUV's that did that because they had a roll over sensor that would tell the engine to shut off before it flips, maybe our cars have that and yours is messed up?

I am thinking that maybe if it is a manual something is wrong and killing the engine when you downshift before a turn

I am no mechanic so dont take my advice. do you still have a warenty? if so just bring it to the dealer.

if its an auto it could be the downshift that the motor doesn't like, possibly a tranny issue.

if it's a manual...stay in gear thru the turn, dont go to neutral.

my M5 liked to stall out from neutral before...it'll do it all day, and wait 4 months to do it again...

Yes, if you are Running the M5, stay in gear. It could be, then when you are just coasting, with the engine idleing, the Power Steering pump puts too much load on the engine, and stalls it out. Though, i've never really heard of this happening. But I suppose it is possible, I know, for example, I just coast down this big hill coming into my town, and I just slip it in neutral. If this is at night, I've got the head lights and fogs on, the heater is running, and the CD player on, my head lights get notiacably dimmer, becuase there is a lot of load on the alternator, though the engine is only running at idle.

How's your alternator? could be that the alt is going bad and can't keep up with the extra strain of having the power steering running? Strange.

possibly could have something to do with a bad vacumn hose..had that problem before and replaced them since they had small cracks in them and the car ran fine after that

mine seems to do the same when I am turning really slow to park or something, or when I just turn on the car the battery gauge goes all the way down to like 9 or 10, but other than that its normal, my car doesn't turn off though. I would just suggest changing the alternator.

I had the same problem. Mine cut off as I was entering the highway on a sharp on-ramp

It also happened when I was merging into traffic one day. The car just cut off and all the dash lights came on. I nearly drove into a ditch cause I had no power steering or brakes.

After it would roll to a stop I would put it back in "park" and it would start right back up.

After tinkering for a week or so I finally figured out that it was corrosion under the positive battery terminal. It would cause everything to kinda "short out" everytime the battery shifted going into turns.

Check your terminals first. I'm 99% sure a good cleaning of the terminals will stop this from happening.

The alternator doesn't have anything to do with the power steering pump, besides the fact they are both driven by the same belt. The PS Pump is not dependent on the alternator.

This does kinda make sense, if the car is idling, and you are costing though the turn, then you could see a decrease in the alternator output, due to the increased load on the engine from the PS pump, with out increased output from the engine.

That's what I was trying to say. I know the PS pump is belt driven, not electric. If the alternator is going bad, it would not be able to keep up with the engine's requirements when under load. it's worth looking at. (Autozone does free alternator checks.)

I would put my bets on it being a problem with the battery cable. The turning pulls the wires into a bad contact area.

once your car is running it can run without the battery as long as your alternator is working, thats the simple way to check if your alt is working..pull the battery cables off
