Were you low on gas when you were making turns? Im not sure but isnt chenck guages light comes on when you low on gas. It might sound stupid, but if you were low on gas when you were making the turn gas might went to the side of the tank where fuel pump couldnt get it therefore the car stalled.

holy crap now its dieing all over the place. pull up to a stop sign and it dies. stop at a red light and it dies. turn right and dies. i did not get a chance to check/clean the cables cause i am stuck here at work.
is it beginning to sound more like an alternator problem?6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

and say it is my alternator, would that cause my car to run considerably slower? my car has no pick up and go - you cant even tell i have 3.73s. at the track friday night i could only muster a 14.9 @ 88 mph   i was so pizzed. i thought for sure after getting the valve guide fixed and the 3.73s i would have done a whole lot better than what i did.
i did not think the alternator would cause a car to run slower, but then what do i know?6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

quote:
once your car is running it can run without the battery as long as your alternator is working, thats the simple way to check if your alt is working..pull the battery cables off

did this and it worked fine. or how long should i have had it running? i think i only waited 2 minutes or so. the cables i will clean today even though they look like they dont need it. hasnt died in over 80 miles so i'll just have to wait and see. it is scary though. :eek:6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

nino,
i have a friend that this happend to in his grand am... for him it was the fuel pump, it wasn't putting out enough psi of fuel(not sure on the exact numbers on that though)... after he got a new fuel pump it ran like new, something to think about. and does yours just shut off, because his would stutter then die, and if he pumped the gas enough sometimes it would stay alive...

guys what about my fuel filter/pump?????
that could be the cause couldnt it? that could be why the check gauges could be coming on also. the car starts right up after it dies so i know its not the alternator, and the wires look clean to me. could it be my fuel filter/pump?????
at the track my car ran like azz, would a dying fuel pump cause that? i have no power from a stand still. i can move when on the road, but from a stop it seems it would do me better to get out and push.

here is something else i noticed driving around today. my lights where on cause its dark. when i started to slow down they would dim. i am talking about my inside lights. i cant tell about my headlights cause with the blackouts they always look dim. and the voltage meter would start to kiss the red. then idleing i noticed my voltmeter was jumping up and down and kissing red still.
back to the alternator huh?6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

Yup, same here. When I tap my brake pedal, everything dims and my gauges jump.
Have you taken the cables off your battery and cleaned the contact points?1997 Camaro,
SLP cold-air, Hooker Supercompetition catback, Air temp. module, Powerstat thermo, 1LE Aluminum drive shaft, 3.42 POSI rear, 1LE sway bars front & rear, Powerstop crossdrilled rotors on all corners, Torque Thrust II\'s (17x9.5 front & 17x11 rear), and a couple other goodies. http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?selected=84487

ok car drove fine for 200 miles then started it all over again. i have noticed this now:
in drive holding the brake the car will fluctuate at the voltmeter kissing the red and the rpms jump from 700 to 1200. when the voltmeter does succed in touching red the car dies and check gages light comes on. does this with a half a tank also.
oh crap i just remembered----to the guy who emailed me, i think you are on to something. sorry about forgetting your name at the moment, but i just remembered that i did check my power steering fluid and i think i am low. stores were closed, and i have been too busy working to get under the hood.
the car dies when in drive with the brake pressed but not necesarily whenin neutral. it dies when turning the wheel and not moving anywhere.

nick, you where right, i was low on power steering fluid. i am stuck at work so i wont get a chance to fill it up and try anything till tomorrow. i will keep you informed.
one thing i did notice was that when i took my positive cable off there was that green battery water all over it. is that normal? i have side posts and i never have seen that before cause all my other cars where top posts.6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

added powersteering fluid and still have the same problem. the car didnt die but the voltmeter was dancing and the lights where dimming. its all good once you give it gas, but at a stop its scary. couldnt find any loose wireswhat it sounds like at idle but in drive is a very wicked lope. very wicked. i mean i lope already but this is a wicked lope.
