  • help asap, flashing SES!!

made a quick run to the store, the car is running fine, i come back out and start her up, she starts chugging under acceleration. i drive about 100 ft. and this continues, at idle the rpm jumps around 400-700. the car shakes violently under any kind of acceleration. also the ses light is flashing at me!! help!

its amazing what doing searches will lead you to. sorry posted franticly. so i have read that it is a missfire (most likely). i have checked the plugs/wires, they *look* fine. coils possibly bad? maybe a clogged cat? (do have a cheap catco)

update: this morning the car seems to be running fine. took it around the block, tested at WOT, everything normal. the ses light is still on though, not flashing... i will look for an autozone today to see if i can get the codes scanned

What does it mean when the ses light is flashing as opposed to just on?

flashing means its a serious consistant problem. if its on its a problem, but not as bad.

flashing means you are exceeding expected emissions by a factor of 1.5. this can cause damage to the catalytic converter. usually flashing indicates ignition misfire (most often a dead miss on one or more cylinder).

Hopefully I wasn't on it too long, although I do have a cheap catco. Ah we'll see, car sounded pitiful under the misfire.

mine used to do the same thing, i'd bet its your coils. i replaced mine and my car runs fine now. plugs and plug wires are a good bet too though. Good luck.
