Re: oil change every 3000?
I change mine between 3,000 & 4,000 miles, regardless of the length-of-time period. The last time I changed the oil in my GTO was in November of '07. I use Mobil 1 and it sits in a garage about 95% of the time. It averages about 1,500 miles per year. It would be a waste of money for me to change it every three months since it would only have about 100-300 miles on the oil.sigpic

Re: oil change every 3000?
examine the oil if it has been less than 3k and see how it looks, if it is clear yet and looks good don't worry about it. If it is black and thick, change it

Re: oil change every 3000?
i've actually heard people say up to 5,000 miles until the next oil change, and i was thinking maybe this every 3,000 mile oil change is just one of those ways the places that do it make more money off people. but i guess it all depends. highway driving vs. city. if you go to the track alot or not. if you go to a track at all ect. but roughly i've been changing mine around 3,000, and seems like its doing good.

Re: oil change every 3000?
^ If your using a synthiec then 5000 miles to 7500 miles would be good , but change the oil filter every 3000 miles. Like 974life said just check the oil if it looks good then maybe just change the filter and top off the oil. If regualar oil then I would change mine around 3000 miles maybe 3500-4000 miles if I was working alot and couldn't get a chance to do it. Every 3000 miles is good for regualar oil. My wifes Saturn Vue 3.5 I change every 3000 miles, uses 5w20(what owners manual reccomends) and it is dark when I change it every time.08' L76 6.0L 4X4 Chevy EXT.Cab LTZ Vortec MAX with Snug top cover, Dynomax exhaust,Hptuners& K&N intake

Re: oil change every 3000?
I try to change mine every 2500, just incase i forget i still have time. But hell, sometimes i do it sooner if there is a good deal on oil and a filter, it all depends, while working at a jeep dealer they hounded people to come in to change their oil, thats them searching for money, but the consensus from the mechanics is that they'd run it till it looks bad(not that clear honey look).

Re: oil change every 3000?
there is no profits in doing oil changes at shops....it is the other services that make shops money, but oil changes are not profit makers

Re: oil change every 3000?
Sorry, i should have rephrased that, but i think the mechanics could flag like 2 tenths of an hour for an oil change, not the dealership making a profit, but the mechanics squeezing a few extra hours our a week and at least for the brand new cars an oil change reminder was sent out like every 3 months i think.
