    Re: oil change every 3000?

As I said earlier, I change it every 3,000 miles. I do ignore the 3 month deal and I stick to 6 months maximum. My wife's car only get driven about 2,000 miles every 6 months. My car reaches 3,000 miles in about 4 months.

When I lived in NY, I had a 110 mile round trip commute every day. With all of that highway driving I used to change the oil in the car every 5,000 miles. I ended up changing the oil about every 2 months and it was still very clean looking.

Not sure about yours, but last I checked, my Camaro didn't have an "Oil Change" light......

Not sure what years it's on, but there's a suggested Oil Change light that comes on based on a driving style, mileage, use, etc. Only seen mine come on once or twice, and that's because I forgot to reset it when I got the oil changed.

Change my oil every 3,000 miles, give or take a couple miles. I'll go out and buy the stuff a couple hundred miles before time for the change so it can be done during a lunch break or something.

yea i have an oil change light too. it comes on almost everytime i start the car but then goes off after like 30 secs to a min or so. it was doing that even after i got my oil change. guess it still needs to be reset. not a big deal tho.

You just need to reset it. Next time you get the oil changed, just hold down the button by the odometer for 30 seconds until the light flashes a couple times. It will also reset your trip odometer, fyi.

              Re: oil change every 3000?

When I reset my oil change light (when it comes on), I can go through 3 oil changes before the light comes back on. That means 9K between oil changes...

              Forget that...

When I do my oil changes at 3K, I get 4 qrts back. So I burn roughly a quart of oil every 3K. It comes out dark and well, that to me means the light doesn't work.

Oh, I got 271K on the clock btw...and run the hell out of my car.

the oil change monitor counts your engine rotations, NOT how many miles your car goes, it is working perfectly fine.

your car should only take around 4.2 quarts assuming you have a v6, i have no idea why you would be putting 5 quarts in

Check the manual... 4.75 quarts on 3.8 engines. I use Mobil's M201 filter...double the capacity of the M101...which constitutes the additional .25 qrts.

If it counts engine rotation...well, that's almost 9K miles of rotating.

I'm not aurguing with anyone...if y'all want to do 6-8K mile oil changes...do it. I work in a service shop...I see what happens.

I will NOT, or ever, do more than 3K per oil change...it gives me a peice of mind. $50 and 30 minutes is a small price to pay to drive your car for 10+ years with 300K on the ticker.

With all regards, everyone is able to change their oil when they want on their cars. I'm just adding my 2 cents...3K or 3 months. Nothingless for me...
