lot of controversy on this. I would like to see a side by side of a car with 2.5 then 3. What most people say is with larger diameter exhaust you lose back pressure, resulting in lost power on the low end. I would go 3", let it breathe. Thats what im running and my car has plenty on the low end.
also is your car an auto? anyways i would look into gears, 3.73s, maybe 4.10s. Also a stall converter
id look into 3.73 w/posi and a stall converter as well, plus all the above. Not gonna be cheap, but with mild cam, heads, full exhaust, intake, gears, converter you might hang with a stock lt1 lol
A 1 piece aluminum driveshaft is a cheap and effective upgrade. Also an easy install.
I'm not sure if anyone mentioned it but you are definitely going to need HP tuners if you plan on changing gears, the cam, heads too.
It's expensive yeah but once you have it you won't regret it.
so which do you suggest for my car a 2.5" or 3" exhaust? (since you have had experience driving with both)?
i like the bottom end torque with the 2.5", but thats just me.
i was running a 9.40 @ 68 in the 1/8 before i changed to the 2.5, but havent ran it since i put it on there and now we will never know, next time i run ill have head work, intake work, and rockers. (shes waiting patiently for parts)
but as far as running 13s, the next thing i would focus is headers and exhaust, either 2.5" or 3" you will see improvements either way. i totally felt a difference in 2nd (i have a 2000 3.8 auto) from like 55 to around 75 or 80 just effin pulls!
Team NoVa
2000 Firebird- Intake, Pacesetters, !cat, full 2.5 to flowcrapster, 1.9 rockers, LS6 springs and Intense modded retainers, WS6 speedlines, T/A bumpers and hatch, 5 spd swapped, SOON TO BE nitrous'd and cammed.
so i have always heard that 3" exhaust is over kill. I have had two different guys at two different shops tell me that 2.5 is good for around 300-350hp. I had it on my bird for a while, and it pulled good after about 4800 rpms so i went to 2.5" and it was torque-ee-er (more torque-ee?) and i didnt feel any effects on top end performance.
Totally correct me if im wrong, im here to learn....
You're right, it's a big debate. Supposedly, the 3" will move the torque band further up in the RPMs, so the car won't pull as hard down low. But, if you're racing, how low do your RPMs drop? I know I like the power being up high so it's right there when I shift. It is abit slower off the line, but it makes up for it once you hit 3K or so :). And, if you have a 5 spd (or stall your auto), you'll be able to launch high enough to never see those weak low RPMs :P
blizzard are both of your cars insured? must cost quite a bit? im lookin into geting another car so one can be my daily driver, and the other i can work on bc when i start the heavy mods it will have to be out of service quite a bit.
Also search and research what you find. There will be A LOT of reading involved, but that will help you to find the best parts, brands, etc. and save you trouble and money in the end.

That's exactly what I did. Yeah they're both insured. The 98 has to be because I bought it from my brother with a loan from the bank. Full coverage on that one and just a mid sort of coverage on the 02. So I pay 97 bucks a month for both of them.
Everyone was like, why are you modding a v6.. that was before I got the turbo on it. Now they're like  I don't regret it.

Maybe that encyclopedia is wrong or my car is special because my 02 does have a 2 piece. I know I've never taken the driveshaft out and I'm the original owner.

"Most V6 F-Bodies come with a two-piece driveshaft from the factory (although some 99+ models come with a one-piece steel unit)."
Maybe I'm one of those exceptions. My 99 came with a one-piece steel driveshaft. I was not told of a replacement by the previous owners, but it's always a possibility. Then again, I would not put it past GM to have thrown in left over parts lying around the factory in those last few years.

There's no controversy. No car w/ 2.5" exhaust has ran faster than a comparable car with 3" exhaust. All the record-holding, as in no faster known car, NA, boosted, whatever, have 3" exhausts. The only people who say otherwise are V8 garage vermin that have no experience working on 3800s.
Not much going on, replaced my Kenwood double din stereo with a Pioneer double din, the Kenwood had problems. Then replaced my power inverter for my reverse...
Hi all new to the community here. I have a 2014 RS 6 speed manual... and so about a year ago my tail lights got cracked and eventually the plastic housing...
