weird RPM jump

so im at the stoplight and i start to go and then all of a sudden my RPM jumped to about 4 G. i was not punching it or anything since it was heavy traffic. it did like twice and then it is fine. what caused this?? i almost hit the person in front of me. any idea would be greatly appreciated!

sounds like something my car is doing. I think it's vaccuum related. I'm guessing you have an automatic? I have a 5 speed, but my situation is when I'm shifting; with the clutch in it seems like the throttle cable is sticking and my RPM's continue to climb. I figured out that the cable isn't the problem. I have a boost gauge which also indicates the problem. It only does it once in a while. Mostly when the engine is cold. I'm currently doing some more research on the subject, so I'll let you know what I find out.

i looked around and my cable was busted. i dont even drive it hard and rarely race. wonder why it went. oh well..just dont take it to the manufacturer lol. they wanted to charge me 300 and something. my friend fixed it for a 12 pack :D good luck on yours and ill ask around too, to see what happens.
