  • Cooling Fan ?

Hey latley my cooling fans havent been operating like they are supposed to. I changed out my Relays, then I chaned the sensor in the block and a few days ago I changed the fan motor and the fans still dont come on.....Whatelse could be wrong. When I unplug the connector from the sensor in the block the fans just stay on. but when I plug it in they never come on eventhough the check engine light stays off when connector is in ( And on when it's unhoooked ) Anybody got any suggestions? The car is a 94 3400

turn your ac on, and see if one fan turns on.

i dont see this being a problem because what you describe is 100% normal unless your car is overheating and they arent turning on, or your car is running cooler than normal, which would indicate a bad thermo

      Re: Cooling Fan ?

its a 3.4 so there is only 1 fan.

heres the issue most likely, there are actually TWO coolant temp sensors.

while you indicated that you changed the temp sensor in the block you didn't say anything about the one in the intake manifold sitting next to the thermostat, which by the way, is the one that tells the computer how hot the coolant is and triggers the fans to come on. The one in the block is simply for the gauge in your car.

if your fan motor still doesn't work after changin out that CTS, talk to me about doing a manual fan switch, it will cost about 10$ and take an hour or so to install.

            Re: Cooling Fan ?

            1. mount switch. (SPDT or single pole double throw ~ on/off ) I mounted mine near the ash tray.

            2. run 2 wires from the switch (ground one of them anywhere there is a good ground I used the 3.4 stock ground point on the fenderwell in the engine bay) and tap the other wire into the green wire labelled "J" on the passenger side wire harness coming from the ECM. (using a wire splicer or equivelant) the fan is always getting power so all we are doing here is grounding it to make it turn on really.

btw, you can run the wires easily through the grommet behind the ECM, so you do NOT have to drill a hole. though u will have to remove the pcm to reach it. oh and the way i have just described your fan will turn off when your car does, so it's ok if you forget.

                    Re: Cooling Fan ?

ok well to start you off, you will need (2) 16gauge wires that are about 6 or 7 feet long just to be safe. Try to get different colors too, that will help.

Also get an SPDT switch, that is single pole, double throw, or just your simple On/ OFF switch.

Finally, pick up a small box of wire splicers for 16-18 gauge wire (or whatever size you end up buying) the wire splicers are nice because you don't have to cut the exisiting wire, you simply lay it inside the plastic splicer with the wire your tapping into and then press down with a pair of pliers to "crimp" them together.

you can get all these things at say home depot for under 10$ or maybe even radioshack.

start with getting the supplies, then we can talk about what to do with them.
