yeah i flushed it a year ago. My car has never got up above 210. it usually stays around 190 after its warmed up. Today, I did a compression test. Here's the results:
1. 185
2. 185
3. 185
4. 190
5. 182
6. 195
My spark plugs looked good, they were dry and clean. Is there any way to take a sample of the antifreeze and test it to see if it is oil or just brown sludge that is common with dexcool? My oil looks great so I don't think any coolant is getting into the oil.
That pic actually looked like my wifes old 00' 3.4 Grand Am she had , when I replaced the lower intake gasket on it, leaking on the outside of the engine down the block and not into the coolant. Then I flushed as much of the old dexacool out and the overflow tank which had chunks of build up. I then put in the safe for dexacool and all anitfreezes and it ran fine after that until we traded it in for a 07' 3.5 Saturn Vue. So I would say fulsh as mush as you can out of it and just use some safe anitfreeze with distilled water and see how it runs , also checking to see what color the antifreeze is after a few miles to make sure no oil is getting in there. Good luck with it and I hope for you it is just the dexacool just going to sh!t.
Also my car before the rebuild had 122,000 miles on it and it never burned any oil and I never had to add oil unless my rear main, oil pan or valve cover was leaking. The mechanic said everything looked good when he took it apart pistons and rings, I just did the rebuild because I wanted to put in my cam, forged pistons,Comp OER lifters, pushrods and clev.77 bearings to beef it up some since I was running a Powerdyne supercharger back then. Plus I got my Dads GM discount and the mechanic gave me a discount, I think I paid $750 in labor for the rebuild. That was replacing the FPR and also misc. stuff to make it just about new again. I couldn't pass it up.LOL

okay here is what I am thinking about doing.
option 1. take to dealer and they said they would charge $75 to tell me if it is oil in the radiator and where it is coming from.
option 2. I can replace upper and lower intake gaskets and flush the cooling system.
option 3. just flush the cooling system and keep an eye on my fluid levels.
Well I flushed my radiator and I noticed the inside of my radiator and also my hose that goes to thermo and hose that goes to water pump was coated with brown slime. The antifreeze that came out looked good. However I saved all of the coolant I took out and I left it sitting in gallon jugs. I noticed the next day that all of the jugs had a brown ring of slime that formed at the top of the coolant. So is this definetly oil? Is there a power steering cooler in the radiator? Could it be ps fluid? I have a manual trans. So no cooler for that.if it is oil, since I am getting good compression should I just tear into it and change upper and lower intake gaskets? Is there a way to tell if these gaskets are bad for sure? Thanks.
It did a cooling system pressure test today. I pumped it up to 10psi and it slowly leaked down. Maybe 1psi every 2 minutes. I then pumped it up to 15psi it held better, only leaked 1psi every 4 - 5 minutes. I could not see any external leaks so i guess its internal somewhere. I released the pressure and then started the car and let it get to normal operating temp. The pressure started rising slow and steady. I read if the needle vibrates then its a head gasket. However, the needle was very steady (no vibration). So what do you all think? Still sound like intake gaskets?
I would like to know what you all think about this too because my situation is almost identical, milage, oil burning, manual trans, ect. I flushed my coolant about a week ago because of this but I'm hoping its not a huge problem

cool! Hopefully we can figure out what's wrong with our cars. I thinking about just tearing into it and replacing intake gaskets. I wish I knew for sure though before I tear into it.

well, oil floats in water
there is no PS cooler in your rad unless you have an ls1 (and i think only ss)
other than that, i really have no idea to tell where the leak is coming from
is there only oil getting into your coolant, or is coolant also getting into the oil?
I haven't noticed any coolant in my oil. Just what appears to be oil in my radiator. I am beginning to think it may not be oil though. It don't make sense to me that oil would be getting in my antifreeze without also getting coolant in my oil. I did the pressure test on my radiator and it showed a slow leak but i never saw any antifreeze leaking externally. I also started the car and did the pressure test to see if the needle on the gauge vibrated and it did not. That plus the results of the compression test i did tell me my head gaskets are good.
