On a recent trip to D.C., the service engine light came on after I had put in 13 gallons of 10% ethanol gas (E10) and drove on I-95 for around 45 min. At first, I felt the gas pedal fighting back as if it's the ABS with the brake. I also noticed subtle vibrations from the car that wasn't there before. I thought it might be the poor road condition, but then I noticed the engine pulling weaker and the RPM going higher than usual.
Autozone's code reader gave the p30 misfire code, cylinder 6. I am able to get up to highway speed just fine. Starts up just fine. The engine sputters and bucks from 1500RPM to 2500 RPM, especially in 2nd gear and 4th (OD).
My car's a '96 firebird V6 with auto tranny, Y87. Mileage at 70K. I am not sure if the E10 fuel has anything to do with it, since this has never happened before.
Should I change plugs/wires and get a compression test? Fuel filter? I put in some fuel injector cleaner from autozone. Not sure if it would help, but hopefully it wouldn't hurt.
Appreciate the help :)
