  • royal purple issues?

on my last oil change i decided to swap all the fluids to RP ( oil, ATF, and diff) and was surprised to find that the engine oil broke down after about 1500 miles. I began noticing the oil presure stayed lower than normal by about 10PSI cold and 5 hot. Im running a 3.4L auto and was wondering if anyone else has run into this?
btw went back to mobile 1 synthetic and could feel the difference in power

I used 10w/30 Moblie Clean 5000 for a couple of years , then about 8 months ago used 10w/30 RP , I didn't notice anything except longer peroid of oil change and running smoother, then 2 months ago went to 20w/50 and still the same except the oil PSI stays up longer than with the 10w/30 weight oils.

RP is being exposed as being pretty crappy. If you find the time check out ls1.com and find some posts from a guy named sarge. He does oil analysis on all diffrent kinds and says RP is the worst. (lab test proven btw).

          Re: royal purple issues?

While working at Advance Auto Parts we had a few customers come in and complain about the quality of RP as well. They claimed that after 1500 miles the oil broke down and was about the consistency of water and warned against anyone ever using it, whereas some people would swear by it and run in all theyre vehicles fluids. As for me, ive ran RP in my 3.4 Auto before as well and nothing bad came of it, in fact I waited almost 15k miles before changing it and it seemed to come out the same as if it went it only a little more dirty. So im not biased either way, I did however switch back to running Castrol Syntec as I couldnt justify paying nearly 8 bucks a quart for oil.

i have left rp in for as much as 10K and pressure never dropped below 60psi after a fresh change under 100% throttle it will hit almost 90 psi thats backed with a k and n oil filter
