i seem to hear a clicking sound from the right front wheel but when i brake, the noise stops. upon inspection i found that the outer brake pad seems to be rotating back and forth and hitting the steering knuckle. has anyone had this problem with their front disk brakes?

Sounds like you lost a caliper bolt. There should be 2 holding the caliper on, make sure that you have both of them inplace, and tighten them up too.
