I'll start from the top. I think this might be mainly the transmission, but it could possibly encounter other factors. I have an automatic 3.4 that has the performance transmission mod. The mod sifts the gears at higher rpms. Lately when driving i have heard a strange noise comming from under the hood. It makes the car sound sort of like a gocart.I pinpointed the noise to the left of the block. Its comming from something that looks like a tube that has a block at the top of it. I think it does something regarding emissions. But it soundslike it is either malfunctioning or maybe it isnt bolted down tight enough. This noise has happened till this night.

Tonight as i was driving with my girls, i was taking nice and sharp turns and letting the back end slide around. Wasnt quite looking at the rpms but i am sure that they were flying. After we had a little fun spinning around on ice in the parking lot i drove away but felt less throttle at my foot than usual. I started driving more cautiously but then later on it felt as if the power had come back. As we drove around a little more i hit a couple more corners hard and ended up doing a spin into a parking spot at the local taco bell. After a bite to eat i started the car back up and heard the "emissions thing" under my hood, but it was alot louder. I thought it must be the cold weather/car so i drove away.
As i put the car into reverse it took literally 5 seconds for it to set it into gear. Then when in gear as i tried to reverse it seemed like my tires werent gripping, but a look into the mirrors showed that they were doing fine. The car sounded like it was at 5,000 rpms but the gauge showed only 1,500. As i shifted into drive it took another 5 seconds and made a sound underneath the car like a whoosh or escaping air under the car. Shifting from 1st to 2nd left a 3 second gap between shifts. Same with 2nd to 3rd. The noises sounded much louder and soundd almost like a turbo as i let off the accelerator. As i coasted to a stop the car had trouble downshifting and kept accelerating slighttly after letting go of the gas. I turned offf the car. Waited for 5 minutes for it to cool down (only from 160 degrees) and then started again. Same things happened.

The car goes much slower and is in some feeling of a limp home mode. Does anyone know what possibly could be wrong with the car/transmission besides needing a new trans. Also what is that noise under the hood and what does that "emissions thing" do? Finally, could the performance transmission thing have possibly screwed up the trans other than my erratic driving habits? I am sorry about the long post but i am really frightened that i just screwed up the car for quite awhile. :( :(

It seems you've got a lot going on there but I'm gonna take a stab anyway.

Sounds like you may have an exhaust leak . . . do you cold/cool air intake? check your filter and see if it's still connected securely.

Have you're trany mounts checked, that could be the clunking noise you hear when shifting. It could also be your rear, or your universals.

Good luck, and please - be kind to your 3.4 ;)

My '91 has some of the same symptoms such as delayed shift and also a thumping sound when putting it in gear. I found out my U-joints are barely clinging to life and the trans probably needs a good rebuild after 125k miles. Also the rear pinion seal is leaking but just a tiny tiny bit so that's good. I can't wait till I get my camaro, old cars are a hassle sometimes.

well, i tried it this morning. It seems to be working fine despite some problems due to cold weather. That loud *** noise is still comming from under the hood but i'll just have to deal with driving a car that sounds like a go cart. Maybe the car was just pissed at me for driving her too hard. I'll back off from now on. ;)

alright, i seem to have the problem semi-figured out. when the car is cold from a cold start the transmission seems to work fine. but as the car warms up it seems to slip more and more. when i try to put the car in reverse when it begins slipping the reverse gear doesnt work at all. If i let it cool down for another couple hours reverse and the trans works fine. but as it heats up it has the same symptoms. ****

EGR Leaking. POS tube leaks all the time. That's my $.02
