how exactly did you do it?

what resistance was your key? what ohm rating was the resistor?

im assuming you read the vats bypass thing

      Re: Starting Issue!!!

Yes I read it I had an 11.78 ohms so I put a 12 ohms resistor. After I put them back in the car didn't start right up I had to put a jump on it and it started right up.

But after letting it run for a little while then shutting it off it still seems at this point to have the same issues

            Re: Starting Issue!!!

you know I had a problem kinda like this.

There was a wire that didnt burn out completely, but it caused 2 wires to cross. It didnt catch on fire, but it would drain my battery every day. I would have to jump it more than twice a day if I was to shut it off for more than 5 hours.

            Did you install anything?
trace the wire as much as you can from the bulb that keeps burning out.

your best way I could guess is charge the car up, turn it off, test every fuse junction at the fuse box. if its draining the battery that much, then you have an open circuit somewhere. you should be able to narrow your search down when it pops up saying its using voltage when it shouldnt be.. Electrical problems always suck to have.. I feel ya, though I was able to trace my problem to the radio because some dumb *** decided to splice wires under the dash to install an aftermarket sound system wrong.

if I lived closer, I'd give ya a hand, but your almost 2.5 hours south of me.
if all else fails, take her to an automotive electrician there in columbus.

that isnt going to fix your starting problems, just your security light

you are either oing to have to find out if your car is drawing power from the battery, or if the battery is bad

this will give you a rough start. give it a look over and see if you can figure it out. I was looking to help out the guy thats having his alarm go off all the time after he arms it and found this. you said that the security light would stay on and the car wouldnt start, then after jumping it; it would. but the light would stay on...
                  hope this helps a little..

thats not a VATS/BCM issue, that is a bad battery

                        Re: Starting Issue!!!

ya know I did a search, and from what I can see... maybe it is the vats.. but just needs re-coded...It appears you've reset the VATS.
The car does not recognise the chip in the ignition
key when that happens. You can try to put the key
in the ignition, turn to the on position & wait at
least 10 mins like that when it happens. But
after awhile, it will stop working at all.
Your ignition switch assembly may be to blame.

In some cases, the VATS (GM'S VEHICLE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM)
will re learn the code this way, and will then
allow the restart all the time. But if this does not work,
then go to any GM vehicle dealer
to have the service department evaluate the issue,
                        re code it.

Is what I found. It sounds Just like his problem.. I mean almost dead on..

                          Re: Starting Issue!!!

could be just a security issue.. either the resister or whatever in the key (chip) is not working with the car, or his anti theft unit in his car just needs ripped out and an aftermarket put in.

as far as blowing blubs, he is going to have shorts in the wiring somewhere.

now as far as the battery going dead..

maybe the alarm is killing it. disco the alarm transmitter. see what happens.

google your problems.. your not the only one lol
your battery will go bad being jumped so much.. so you may want to try getting another battery here soon.. They can only take so much jumping

Go to your local dealer, explain to a tech mgr there whats going on. ask him for his opinion and ask about the vats..

thats the thing, the car is starting every time when he gets a jump, its a battery problem

unless i am overlooking something here

well batteries arnt too expensive, and everyone can use a new battery..

he should change it, and if all else fails, get the vats re-done. my 2000 was draining the battery because of an idiot splicing wires and it was running on constant power. after I removed all evidence of an aftermarket audio system, things are fine.. and I know I need a battery. this one is a few years old
