my engine started knocking, thought i could just put some thicker oil in there and it would shut it up, but the other night it died on me, and smoke poured out. it started a few minuts later, and i drove it home very very roughf. I realized it had ben feeling pritty sluggish even before it got rely bad, and i realized might have ben running on 5 cylenders, so i decided to check the spark plugs. I never actualy took them out, but i fiddled with the conections and found that i was able to pull one of them off very eazealy. i pulled it off and put it back on, and the knocking stopped. Should i replace the wires and connections? or should i just go ahead and do the spark plugs? they look like a huge PITA to do on the passenger side.

Re: Knock issue, hink it's the plugs, any advice?
first thing, NEVER put thicker oil into an engine, it only hides the problem, and eventually makes it worse
what color was the smoke.. black?
plugs/wires arent that bad to do, and im surprised you didnt get any SES lights from the plug not firing
yes, you want to get new plugs, the one that wasnt firing is probably fouled out really bad.. it will eventually clear up, but it sounds like your car might have the stock plugs in it anyways
plugs and wires will make your idle a lot smoother, i would do them.. or at the very least plugs

Re: Knock issue, hink it's the plugs, any advice?
It rn fine untill i was on my way from work to go to autozone to get the plugs, i ended up fighing with it to get it home and now it's stuck in the driveway, way to hot to mess with the plugs. But how do i know it's the plugs and not the distributor or something totally different?

what color smoke came out?
is it a knocking noise, or was it a ticking noise?
you dont have a distributor, so its not that
having a wire off of a plug can easily kill a coil also, but its not like a coil to work, and then quit working again.
