ok, here's what's going on. Last year before parking the car, my SES light came on, the car was hesitating, I figured no big deal, I'll check it before I take the car back out. Fast forward to today, I put the ODBII reader on and get a P0303 code, so misfire. I try to start the car....nada. The battery is fully charged, I had it on the tender last night. All I'm getting are clicks, lights work and radio, fan, work too... Is this the starter or the coil pack or both?

    Any help would be appreciated..

Have you tested the battery? If the car doesn't turn at all then there's either not enough power to turn the starter, or your starter is done.

      Re: Car not starting

If it just clicks, it definitely is not the coil packs. Check your connections at the battery to ensure there is no corrosion, either on the cable terminals or inside the threaded holes on the battery. Put a voltmeter on the battery to see if it's putting out 12 or more volts. I think a fully charged battery should be at 13.6v with no load. If it still won't crank, then I would try jumping it. If that doesn't work, then your starter is probably bad.

        your battery is bad

do you just have one of those tiny chargers, or an actual battery charger?

if you have a charger you can try hooking it up and trying to start it.

letting a car sit for a while, especially with an older battery will kill a battery quick

before i got my little trickle charger, i would buy a brand new battery and start the car about once a month.. after about 7 months the battery would be gone, wouldnt even hold a charge for more than 5 min

i have two good batteries in my garage, and they are both giving out ~13 v

one is 13v the other is 13.08 just checked them 10 seconds ago.. just for a reference, but in all reality, the V's dont matter its is the battery had enough cca's to turn the engine over.. having a bad cell from sitting a while will def. do that

but all im trying to say is if the battery is old, get a new one, or try to get a jump start from a friend and see if it will start

Battery is dead guys, no voltage at all.....I'll start by replacing it to see if that will resolve the SES light issue.

That's odd that the battery is showing 0 volts. It should be giving you something, since the lights and radio and fan work. When my battery was low the car basically shut down and wouldn't do anything. But hey, throw in a known, good battery and see what happens.

Ok, I was getting residual voltage, like 3.6 volts......lol. I'm picking up a new battery tonight and I'll start it up to see if it throws any more codes.

Sounds like it must be your battery then. Make sure you clean those terminals when you install the new one. Good luck.

yup, and put some grease on the terminals too, it will help with corrosion

If it clicks while you try to start it then its the solenoid on the starter. Hope you get it fixed though.

Thanks for all your help guys, I guess in my excitement to get the car running, I neglected to do basic troubleshooting. I'm not surprised the battery is toast, it's the battery that came with the car when I bought it 4 years ago. I'll be back if the battery isn't the only problem I have *crosses fingers*

even if it did start the car, it should still be replaced
