  • WHITE SMOKE coming from exhaust

So i noticed the other day that my 96 3.8II base camaro was smokeing pretty heavy out of the exhaust. (only on cold days or chilly) on the first start.

the unique thing about this is that my coolant level is not getting any lower. at all.

but the steam smells like boiling water.

    its not sweet.

but its WAYYYY thick white steam.

doesent smell close to oil either and my car uses full synthetics for EVERYTHING.

    and nothing is getting lower.

    whats my issue

since you say it's only on a cold day, it could be normal, probably just condensation

X2, if no fluid levels are getting lower. My car did it this this winter when it was colder in the mornings. If it was doing it when it is 90 degrees out then I would be worried.

          what was the outside temp?

cars usually dont smoke under 50F or so

as long as your fluid levels arent going lower, you should be fine.

my car has always smoked more than most other cars i have seen on the road, it worried me, but my levels were always fine

I have dual tips and the coldest it gets here in So Cal is like 50F in the morning and your hear everyone *****ing.

Anyway I get a good amount of white smoke rising from the back, but does yours linger around in the air after it comes out?

So when it's 10 degrees outside, you're saying "cars usually dont smoke "

                    ^ yea, grammatic-error.

i've had white smoke before. condensation - don't think it's anything serious.

In AZ in the mornings it was about 50 degrees or lower. The smoke cloud should disapate within a few seconds after coming out. If it rises and fills your garage then it is not condensation. LOL Mine always smelled like fuel before I switched out my TR6 plugs to TR55 then it was still a hint of fuel and sweet smell, I did the TR55 plugs since I'm running it N/A for a few months before the turbo goes on.

You're going to need to define "worn out." There's about 10 different components that make up a rear axle..some of which can be replaced modularly, reletively cheaply...others, it would be more economical to just swap in (just about) any other 4th gen. rear axle
