So my engine looks to be moving quite a bit, and the car has 210,000km on it now, so I think it is due for the motor mounts to be done.

I was looking at the poly inserts at summitracing...but I am not sure how these things work? the inserts are not the motor mounts themselves?...how or what do you do with the inserts? do I need to buy new mounts and put the inserts on the new mounts or something?

i would think u just take ur old/factory ones out & put the poly ones into ur actual mounts!

      Re: poly motor mounts

so like what is the factory mount then...just a piece of metal with rubber or something? I gotta knock the old rubber out somehow, and then somehow attach the poly? How would I go about doing this?

        Re: poly motor mounts

I haven't done a motor mount on an F-Bod, but on my old J-Bod the rubber and the metal are all bonded together. The mount comes out as a unit, and the new mount has the rubber and metal all bonded together. IIRC (which means I probably don't), some of the mount on the f-body are oil filled for a balance of comfort and stiffness.

Downgrading to solid rubber or polyurethane will be fine.

Do you really want polyurethane up in Canada? Polyurethane gets really hard in cold temperatures. Even with Gore-warming and all, I don't think it's getting any warmer there any time soon.

            Re: poly motor mounts

What you have to do is the old mounts you take all the rubber off the old mounts by burning the rubber out then clean up the area nicely and the poly will go where the old rubber use to be.

I think it is like a days work...you need to jack the engine up from my understanding

Does anyone know what the difference is in ride quality for poly motor mounts? Will I be getting more vibration? how much more?

I have a poly trans mount and it has finally broken in, I dont notice the vibrations too much anymore...I am revisiting ordering these poly mounts with my new torque arm mount I am going to be getting tommorrow or thursday...

                  Re: poly motor mounts

I would stick with the stock mounts , you can get both left & right for $20 + shipping Rockauto. Until they come out with a specific poly mount for the 3.8 I would wait for that. It would take me maybe 30 mins. to swap mine out with my tub K and A arms, more space to work with.

I think it will be a pain to get the rubber out and putting in the poly with some grease won't be bad. If you do it let us know how they ride for $90 a pair I hope their good brcause that will be my relacement when the time comes.LOL Poly is suppose to last forever so might be a good investmment. Do they come in black?

I just emailed them now to find out if they come as a pair, or if I have to buy two...and how I can get both left and right mounts because they just show the red and black mounts...unless it is the same for both sides? I dont think it is though...

No , the left and right mount themselves are different but those inserts might just go in as a replacement so it would mount the same.
