Don't ever change your oil cold. You need to run the engine for a bit to get things circulating, and also to get a coating of oil on the engine parts. Because when you put that new filter on and start it up, there are a few seconds with no oil pressure, even if you fill the filter with oil before installing it. Once I tried a cold-oil change on a different car. When I started it up, it sounded awful until the oil pressure built up. It didn't seem to cause any damage, but it sounded horrendous.

I just drive it around for 10 mins or so to get it warmed up, but not boiling hot.

My warm up is just moving the car so I have room to get under it to change the oil maybe 3-5 minutes, never had any problems with odd sounds after oil changes. I do put oil in my extended oil filter and always have good oil PSI at start up. I use Royal purple 20w50. I have a magnectic drain plug and also a magnet on the end of my oil filter. Don't really know if it helps but if I like it for peice of mind. I think I will start to cut open my filters on my oil changes. Esp. after I get my turbo on and up and running.
