    I believe he is referring to the oil that is mixed with the refrigerant, that lubricates the compressor. I once burned an a/c line on my Mustang, after installing headers. Right after that, I thought I had an oil leak from the engine, due to the fact there was alot of smoke. It quickly burned off though. That would be the "phantom" leak he is probably referring to also.
