Re: Security light on car wont start

True, but now that the car is "sleeping" wouldn't it just make more sense to dish out the $300 that you were originally to "poor or cheap" to replace? Instead of trying to diagnose it with a foriegn resistor in there? I dunno, obviously I don't have the whole story, just figured if you already jimmy rigged it 8 months ago for a similiar issue and now your having starting issues, go back to square one and start from scratch.

I replaced the resistor with another one and all is well. So this "poor or cheap" person is back on the road again. I did this mod to my 1994 camaro and it lasted another 60k miles and never had a problem. i think ill take the 20 cent route. thanks for your concern on my spending habits though

oh and it if u have some general knowledge its not no 300$ for a new ignition it ended up costing me like 110$ cuase a ignition is a ignition it dont matter where it comes from

but if ur going to tackle this u need a repair manual or just give up cause it really sucks to do it but itll save u alot of money to diy

if you have some general knowledge, you would know that the wires in the ignition break and the BCM cant read the resistance of the key and prevents the car from starting.

Wasn't trying to say you were a cheap bastard or poor, we've all been there, I was just saying that now you are having issues 'again', why not try to "actually" fix the problem instead of duct taping it? :wavey:

Ok im gona chime in on this one.... I had this problem before... Last week to be precise. I thought the same thing as any one else... ignition, key, yada yada yada. I looked up the mitchell diagram for my car at work the other day. *97 Y87* and according to mitchell your security system is actually ran through the ignition, in to the fuse box through the *Guage cluster fuse* Check your cluster fuse. when u turn the key everything will be normal. Radio works AUX lights what not. The guague cluster fuse goes straight into the body control module which then runs in to the security system. Being that the security light is on and your getting nothing. Turn the key on jack the car up, and take a test light hook it to the battery and jump the starter. Car should run for a split second or to and then shut off. *I orig thought i had a bad starter* Checked the mitchell, check the 10amp fuse and boom, there was the problem. If it would help i could email you the mitchell papers i have for the wiring system of our cars. Hope this MIGHT HELP! haha Good luck!

                        picture of your new keys?

                        what year is your car?

if your keys do not have a resistor, and you have an f body with the VATS system your car will NOT start unless it was tuned out.. either by computer, resistor, or any other way.
