  • Governor/Speed Limiter?

Tell me a my car has a governor on it....please. Was on the flattest, straightest piece of highway in my area, got it up to 119 1/2, or so, and that was it, no mas. Is there something I can unplug? My speedo goes up to 125, so I thought for sure that I would hit it. :(

Our cars are governed to 118. The only way to remove it is to have the computer reprogrammed. You could unplug the Vehicle Speed Sensor, but you would have to idea how fast you were going.

          just a note:
a governor is a device in an automatic transmission that determines shift points.
a speed limiter is programmed into the pcm of your car to cut fuel injection at a certain speed, mainly due to the speed rating of the factory tires.

get an ASE chip. I believe their website is www.asechips.com Also plan on changing your tires to ZR rated or else you can risk blowing your tires. That's the whole reasoning for the limiter to be there in the first place.

Boy, you learn something new everyday. Thanks for the tips (and clarification) guys. Guess 119 will have to do until I get some new rubber. Will do a search on the ASE chips before I ask about it.

Hmm, I checked out ASE's webpage, and the only Chevy car they list is the Lesabre. They do list the 3.8L Firebird though under Pontiac... are the computers the same? Will the chip still work in a Camaro?

pretty sure if you do that then your car won't shift out of 1st gear. i had some connection problems with my jet scu2000 doing that

Shouldn't have any problems shifting with a M5, though. ;)
