so if you go out and romp the hell on it, it doesnt throw a light? mine was missing so bad at one time that the ses light was actually blinking.

yeah, the blinking is like morse code, depending on how many times it flashes will tell you what is wrong, don't have the book for that but I think you can find it somewhere online.

No this car has gone through alot of mis-fires over the 7 years I have owned her...so whenever it mis-fires I mentally make sure I don't make it do it again. But yes ever since it's mis-firing right after starting up I have tried to romp on it, and no light, yet I know my light works as I said my EGR valve is throwing a code (getting stuck in the open position) every 2 - 3 weeks. This weekend I'll have to tear her open and see what I can do. Hopefully just plugs, wires and coils...

that is how to read the codes on an OBDI system

with OBDII the SES light will flash when the knock sensors detect a misfire

I've had my SES light flashing when my catalytic converter exploded and clogged my exhaust with catacomb (dunno if that's the exact word for it). Figured the flashing was a code because it wasn't (flash, flash, flash, flash) it was (flash, wait, flash, flash, wait, flash, flash, flash, then repeat or something). My bad for being a dumbass...figured it was a code of some sort telling me to bail out before my car exploded. :)

My car is a 98...had her since 2002.

Just replaced the coils, the wires and the plugs and SAME THING...I'm pissed...seriously wtf...

yeah, I need to borrow someone's timing light. Ok so I read somewhere that you can test the resistance of the coils, so I did and I get 2 different reading from all 4. (old-6.5k, new-6.5k, old-8.5k and (on the bench) old-8.5k) anyone know what our coils resistance should be?

So here is a weird one...now all my brand new coils across the board are showing 5.5k resistance...WTF???!!

Could this be a damn control module?

If I can smell fuel, meaning I'm running rich, would an EGR staying closed be the cause of this? Or could this be a vaccuum leak? I'm so lost right now...f'ing hate misfires... Everything is saying that random misfires means I'm running "lean"...when I removed the EGR to once again try to knock carbon out I could smell an awful lot of fuel mixture.

Check the new plugs to make sure they all are ok. Also do a compression check while you have them out. I have seen new plugs that are bad/cracked.

So I was just at PEPBOYS to get my EGR valve replaced, because I heard it could be a culprit, but it was saying it would run lean, which I am running rich. So when talking to them they said I prolly have a leaky fuel injector? Does this sound right? If so is there a way to test it? I've seen the electrical test for it, but don't quite understand the process. Also is there anything I can run through it to clear the leak?

You can place a fuel pressure gauge on the test port on the fuel rail and see if it holds pressure once the engine is shut off.

I think that when you had those old coils off, you should have taken the ICM in for testing. When they malfunction (I've had them go out on me twice on different cars) they misfire at high RPM and/or under load. Especially when they get warmed up. I think you should get that thing checked, if only to rule it out.

Also, a bad ICM may not necessarily cause a code, because it is probably what tells the EMC somethings wrong. It's not going to tattle on itself.

^ bad plug wires will do the same thing also

i dont think an EGR is going to cause your problem..

you cant really fix a leaky injector by running something through it.

Couldn't something kind of carbon gotten in one and keeping it open? I was thinking maybe I could run some injector cleaner through it, but everything I know of wants you to add it to a full tank of gas and well I just can't run the car that long. Would kind of defeat the purpose of just driving it to the shop and having my brother look at it. I don't need another dead catalytic converter unless I'm going to replace the whole exhaust setup (headers, y-pipe, cat and exhaust system). The car has about 125,000 miles on it and I'm sure they were going to go out soon anyways, what are the life of fuel injectors? I think 125,000 is pretty good if you ask me...only thing that sucks I think they are $60 a piece...anyone know of anywhere to get performance ones? I know of some sites but kind of want to see if there is a site that I have never been to. Anyone got one?

If I upgrade my PSI on my fuel injectors with only my basic mods would it hurt the engine right now without having advanced upgrades yet? All I have is a flowmaster 80 series dual exhaust and free intake mod (cut the bottom of the screen holder out and opened up the intake slit above the radiator) and ported my heads (dunno the dimensions, they said port, I said yes, picked it up 2 days later).

Has anyone used re-manufactured fuel injectors? Found some for $27.99 with $13 core charge. Weird thing though, all their "multi-port" injectors only say "1 per vehicle". Am I in the wrong section or is that a typo? :) of course there is no picture on any of their fuel injectors.
