    Re: Misfiring Issue

so my brother came by today on his day off and got the SES light to come on. It's pulling a p0300 which is "random misfire". *sigh* So he took it to the shop and here are the results he came up with. According to the computer it says I may have a bad coil again (even though I just replaced them all) or a bad control module (which is what I was figuring). Also says I have a bad MAP sensor, it's supposed to read 3.5 and it's reading .5. Also said my cat is rattling now (duh, you drove it 20 miles with raw fuel dumping into it). *sigh* so it looks like another damn cat replacement is in my near future.

I'd still pull that ICM and get it checked. That's probably the culprit, especially since you already replaced the coils. As for injector life, I don't think those are something that usually dies. My last car, though it was TBI (an 87 Cavalier) had 293K on it and the injector still worked. So, injectors probably are not prone to dying. Not to say they can't, because anything can fail.... but it seems ignition parts are more prone to going out.

yeah, he has my credit card, told him to get whatever parts he thinks needs replacing...want him to replace the MAP first to see if that clears it all up, then ICM...then COIL...

hopefully the cat isn't fully dead yet, as I will just save up and get headers (thinking clear or pacesetter), hi-flow cat (no clue what avenue to go here) and cat-back exhaust (thinking american thunder)

It was the f'ing control module. he used a spark plug tester and moved the coils around until one wasn't getting fire and presto one control module later and the car runs perfect. I need a spark plug tester now...

          anyways, all fixed...

just buy a really cheap self powered timing light, its way easier to check for spark that way IMO
