  • feeling kinda dumb about spark plug gaps, help...

OK I searched and everybody says for an n/a 3.8 to gap to .06 the thing is with my dad's gapper there are 2 numbers on each thing. If you look at it one way, .06 is really small and the other it seems really big. Both are way diffeent from the way it is gapped now so I'm not sure which one it is. For the big one I have to put .019, .020, and .021 together to make the .06, but the small one just says .064. Damn I feel dumb...

Each piece is called a feeler, the assortment is called a thickness gauge, or feeler gauge. They are stamped in 001.increments. A .06 is 60 one thousands of an inch. (.060) a .006 is six thousands of an inch. You add the numbers together to get the gap you need, like the .019+.020+.021= .060. The gauge that reads .006 will be much thinner that the one that reads .060.

SWEET! The only spark plug I could reach was causing the SES light (what luck) and now it's fixed!

Here is a tip to get at the number 3 and 5 cyclinder plugs, place the spark plug socket over the plug, then use a combination wrench (box end, open end) on the hex end of the socket. This is easier than trying to get the rachet on the socket. I did all my plugs from underneath the car in 30 minutes.
