It may; there are some codes that don't set off the SES light. Then again, there are many areas that the PCM doesn't monitor, but it sure can't hurt to check it out. It's all about the process of elimination.
The SES light was never on. She was nesting in the garage for about 4 months through winter. Had her out a couple of times on good, clean road days and ran great, no stalling. Started driving her daily again for about a week; now ideling at a red light will stall, hot or cold. The exhaust is quite smelly (sulfery, rotton eggs) so I think a rich mixture, possible fuel filter, maybe a stuck open injector? Do O2 sensors have any effect on mixture? Has 75,000 rounds, most likely original O2 sensors.
Also, she never ran perfectly smooth - I mean "is it running" smooth. When I picked her up, she had 30,000 rounds (5 years ago), idle was a bit choppy. I seafomed intake, gas tank; installed all MSD coil packs, plug wires, Iridium plugs, fuel filter, pcv valve, K&N filter, Flowmaster exhaust, absolutly no change in idle. With the Flowmaster exhaust, it actually sounds like it has a mild cam. Is this normal for the 3.8?
well, if you are running rich i means that your fuel filter is working preperly.
yes, o2 sensors control the fuel mixture.. after it stalls, is your car a bit harder to start?
a clogged cat can cause a rotten egg smell, but so can a rich condition.
and yes, it is normal for a stock v6 to sound like it has a mild cam.. mine does, and since you are running rich (maybe) it would increase the effects.
I would get the O2s checked or replaced, they are probably due anyway. They can get lazy with age. They won't be bad enough to set a code, but they can be bad enough to cause problems. They could be sending the PCM a "lean mixture" signal causing the PCM to add fuel, but the O2s may not be out of range where they would set a code.

After it stalls, it always starts right back up
If the cat is clogged, would there would be a definite drop in acceleration? She takes off just fine, from a stop or rollin'.
Will a scan determine if the O2's are getting bad, or lazy? Those critters are like $80 each, would like to know if that is the cause B4 I toss those in.
A scan will def tell you. But it has to be done with a tool that reads the datastream, not one of the basic code readers. I think the clogged cat gives you problems when you are at cruising speed and then hit it, it will accelerate real slow and then get better when you let off the gas. There's lots of bad-cat posts on here though, just do a search.
if oyu are going to pay $229 for a scanner, why not just get a Scan gauge II?
it will read and tell you OBDII codes like a scanner will, and gve you a description of the code, and also does a bunch of other stuff (like tell you oil pressure, rpm, coolant temp, and a bunch of other stuff) for almost $100 cheaper
