  • somethings ticking

sounds exactly like a lifter tick, except that it suddenly stops at around 2300rpm

my oil PSI stays the exact same from like 1800 rpm to redline (around 60psi) so im having doubts that it is a lifter

i have not tried pulling the belt and running the engine to see if it goes away, but what would you guys suspect?

    balancer? teninsor?

i have read in the other thread that the balancer might not "tick" if the belt is taken off because of there being no load on it, so how can i check to see if its bad?

    thanks

If you remove the belt ,you can watch the balancer to see if it is wobbling, or feel inside of it too, to if it is dry rotted. Mine made noise at idle and throughout the RPMS and without the belt. It was a really loud knocking sound if the balancer is going out, I thought I had a connecting rod hitting the side of the engine.LOL Also might check EGR for ticking or exhaust flanges, once it gets warm it might expand and close up. Or could be a pulley.

As stated, be sure to also check the EGR. It could also be the injectors. I'm trying to determine the source of a rather noticeable ticking, and am beginning to believe it might be the injectors. Try putting a hose or screwdriver to the source and the other end to your ear to help isolate the noise.

can you guys show pics of where to check, I'm used to the old school cars with carbs. My car is making what sounds to be spark knocking, but I noticed it happened alot more when it got hotter. I also noticed that the sound didn't happen when I reved the car in park, odd.
