This is also why doing them from underneath is easier...

remember shops will often quote you a price based on the amount of higher paying work they have to do already....if all there mechanics are busy doing jobs their going to make good money at, and you want something simple like plugs and wires, they are going to charge you more to make up for the extra time its going to take them to finish the higher paying job....doesnt make much sence but it happens with the little shops.

I hear ya. I am pretty much decided on going DIY. Was gonna pick up a Haynes manual last night, but I took a nap after dinner that lasted 12 hours.

Any guys in the Durham area who wouldn't mind being Mr. Miyagi for an afternoon? I think that would help a lot. I'll buy beer and pizza! :)

Plugs and wires are pretty easy to do if you have the patience for it. Sometimes it can be a pretty tight squeeze, I had a hard time snapping the MSD plug boots onto some of the plugs. When I took out the old wires the metal heat shields were pulled off and I couldn't figure out how to put it back on so I bought new mesh protectors off of eBay, works well enough.

Also, before I changed the fuel filter I ran Seafoam through the fuel tank to clear everything out. I figured it'd all break loose and then I'd just remove it through the filter anyway.

Def. do it yourself, I would of asked them if the K.Y. comes with the $450 because you will need it since their sticking it your @ss.LOL Haynes manual is great start, just take your time , you can buy boot protectors on ebay for about $30 shipped, I have used them for years. Even if it takes a weekend you'll still be fine, if you get stuck or don't know how to do something just post the ? on here and I'm sure someone will help you out. Your lookng at maybe a $100 in parts, so you'll save quite a bit. Maybe do an oil change with good filter and oil if you are in need of one or a new belt and PCV or other maintance mods.

^ i totally agree. you can pick all your parts up from a local autozone, NAPA, whatever you have in your area. just like everyone said: do it yourself, and screw the shop thats giving you a hard time and not to mention over charging you. gab a beer in one hand and a fuel filter in the other, and make it a fun weekend:excited:

The Haynes manual is like my second bible.

Im still a F-body n00b and these guys are doing a great job in showing me the ropes. Everytime my car breaks (only twice so far) I learn a great deal in learning how to repair it, and not even so much what is actually broken but other components that can contribute to its failure. Its amazing how much you can learn when you read the Haynes manual.

Definitely get in the habit of doing it yourself and forget those damn mechanics who just want the cash.

You'll be surprised on how easy it is to replace parts on your car. Just get some quality tools!

Hell , I remember when the dealer wanted to charge me $80 to replace my belt, I laughed my @ss off and just said just change the oil, coupon for like $12 oil change plus employee discount from my Dad working there.
