Nice thread, it's peaking over 100* in Tucson all week. I need to do the insulating wrap mod.

My ghetto mod is the double air dam. After scraping the dam on enough stuff from early careless driving, I felt it wasn't stiff enough to force air up though the radiator (and ac condensor), so I bought another one off gmpartsdirect (about $30).

Then when the new one arrived, I figured, "Why not just put them both back to back on there, and get some extra stiffness". With a couple dremel cuts on the old dam to get them nested together nicely, they fit in well, and are definately stiffer than one (no bending back so much at speed). A/C stays nice and cool. And no problems with overheating, even road racing in Phoenix on a 95* day, with a FTRA blocking a bunch of flow through there.

Hmm well i took it to the mechanic and he put it in for free since i know the guy.

Well it seems like the stuff he put in was comming out, it was bubbling out of the ac plug where he put it in. Now i think all my freon escaped.

I took it to NAPA and i purchased the little cap to put it on there ( i lost the original) so maybe it would stop coming out.

The guy at napa said that the little valve/screw thingy in there is stuck in the open position and that i just have to replace it.

well I would expect that from a 2 year old car. If it didn't I would take it back to the dealership and tell them to fix it. Not all of us have cars with the new car smell still in them. Sorry if I sounded rude, not my intentions really. But my Camaro is turning 10 this year and my AC still runs strong. Its only had one rechage a few years ago and still blows strong. Not as cold as I would like but I hope to get that fixed sooner or later.

I had a problem with the valve leaking when I went to check my AC. It had no pressure whatsoever, so we filled it back up, and the valve stopped leaking. So it was either just dry, or it needs to have pressure behind it to close.

Does anyone know about checking to see if the compressor is bad? I can't get mine to kick on. My brother seems to think that the spring inside it is not engaging, but hasn't had a chance to look at it. It is really weird because it worked well last fall. But every time I have tried to use it this spring it won't turn on.

Is there any way to check it, or fix it? Because I would rather not buy a compressor if I don't have to. They are lotsa money around here.

Well since i added that freon additive it does seem to be cooler at the vents.

I did the wrap thing, it looks weird when you pop the hood, but it really helps out.

theres no spring that turns your compressor on....its all magnets, and a sort of shock absorber

its not that the spring is bad in the compressor. its probably just soo low on freon it won't engage. have a licensed tech charge it and as more freon gets into the system it will kick on.
