  • factory gauges really arent accurate at all

by all means dont go off of them

my temp gauge is off by 30F, the volt gauge is off by 2 volts, and my tach is off by 200rpm

i can only imagine what my oil pressure gauge is off by (hopefully that one is actually accurate)

i was playing around with a scan gauge today.. and its an awesome piece of equipment, i think everyone should get one

it tells you everything, like the engine load, the cps readings, maf readings, intake air temp, ign timing, tps reading, reads obdII codes, tells you fuel mileage, a bunch of stuff

i got up to 79mpg by engine braking :naughty:

Or we can get HP tuners to scan all of that and more! Oh and then we can edit it too. But that's just a minor detail. :spank:

Re: factory gauges really arent accurate at all

^ Thats what I'm thinking. I have HPtuners and the Aeroforce scan gauge with 2 .5 volt inputs, the scan gauge is nice because I can watch my fuel trims, maf readings, KR, temp, volts, etc. and when the turbo is on EGT's in real time and I can set it to flash at me if I get like for example 3 degrees KR or if my temp goes above 220 just stuff like that. Also eveything is digital so my rpms and speed is easier to read and you can set it up so it will tell you how many MPG you get between gas fillups I haven't even begain to mess with all the features it has, pretty cool though. It shows DTC'S and will delete SES lights. It is better than having the laptop in the car all the time, and it records up to 5 mins I think it is.

Yeah those are pretty cool I'd like to get one sometime soon. Mostly for the instantaneous MPG readings....... Especially now with gas going back up again.

yeah, doing some city driving, i noticed that the readings were all over the place, but i would like to see what my car gets on the highway

i was anywhere from 7mpg - 79mpg driving around town.. but i also dont have the thing set up for my car, so that might be a factor there

I mpg gauge would be cool. My mom has one in her x5 right below the tac. I've put that thing down to 0 mpg. hah

your right, my scan gauge showed my temp gauge was off by 25 degrees. so now i'm not worried about overheating like i once was.

i have an actron scanner that i used...

Areoforce scan gauge does milage but you have to set it up for it or it will flucuate with the readings.

if you are talking about the scan gauge II like i am, mine was off the opposite way.. my car was running between 200-206 degrees while my gauge was reading below 190 (middle mark)between 160 and 210

I think the Scangauge II even lets you reset codes, correct?
