Since the day I bought my car (used), its always started hard. After driving it throughout the summer, I've come to realize that when the car gets below 3/4 tank on gauge (we all know thats around 1/2 tank) it will start much harder than with a full tank. With a full tank, I need to keep the key forward for a few seconds before starting it. My dad told me to do this so the fuel pump can get enough fuel to the motor or something. If I don't do this, it will just keep cranking over and over. Now when it gets below 3/4 tank, I need to keep the key forward for upwards of 10 seconds before it will start. Otherwise, like before, it will just keep cranking over. What could be the cause of this? Is it the fuel pump? My dad said the previous owner just put a new fuel pump on it, but I dunno if hes sure on that.

Fuel filter, air filter, tuneup, etc. I'd start with the fuel filter though.sigpic
