Questions about ordering a motor.

So my 3.8 took a dive, its either a spun rod bearing or maybe a wrist pin I haven't dug that far into it. I've torn the top of the motor apart and everything on the top end looks fine. If its a rod bearing there would really be no point in just replacing one and the crank is probably scarred at that point also.

I've called around and O'Reillys keeps giving me different prices, my father called and they told him $1600 with core, then they told me $2300 with core. I found a site called EverDrive.com link here that offers free delivery for $1659 and requires no core. Has anyone ever ordered from them?

The car is paid off, its a daily driver and I intend on driving it for a while so im just going to go with a remanufactured motor so I don't have to deal with another motor that I know nothing about again.

Yep, i'd much rather have something that I know has been taken care of well. its also going to be going under some compressed stress shortly after it runs :tup:

i bought an engine with 3k miles on it for $500 from a junk yard. 5k miles later it's still in pristine shape.
why would you throw your money away?

See my last reply, I didn't ask for an opinion on how to spend my money. Not trying to be a **** but this is the route I want to go. I called the local shop back and they will do a reman. motor for $1600+ tax so that is what I'm doing. I simply asked if a site was reputable.

i might of missed it but i didnt see any where on that site you posted that the engine was reman. just says used, used, used all over the place. All i am saying you are gonna get the SAME thing at a salvage yard as you are from that site you posted, but will safe yourself 100 bucks. Salvage yards have guarantees too.

I'm not buying it from that site, i didn't realize it was all used.

so for $1600 you could get 4 motors from a junk yard, but yet you insist on getting one at 1600 that is stock. Why not buy a built block then for a bit more that will handle the boost you will be throwing at it?

You find me a junkyard 3.8 with low mileage with no problems local for $300 and i'll give you a finders fee. I've looked and I've decided to skip the hassle. The question wasn't about if I should buy a junkyard motor or not.

we are just trying to look out for you and your wallet. Sorry for trying to help you avoid spending more than you should for an engine as you are getting bent over and raped right now. If I knew you liked the sausage in the buns I guess I would not have posted in this thread. BTW, reman motors can break just as fast as a junkyard one.

if anything i would prefer a junkyard engine because they, for the most part, still have all the factory seals.

if it helps you can use an engine from a FWD car such as a Buick lasabre or Pontiac grand prix. You just have to swap over a couple things from your camaro engine like the oil pan, oil filter adapter, and intakes. But basically if you have your old engine you have everything you will need.

I understand that, and I appreciate that. Its coming down to a matter of time and convenience. Most of the 3.8's i've found in scrap yards with the mileage range I'm looking for are either 4+ hours away or cost more than I'd like to spend for a used motor. So say I spend 5 hours driving out of town to go pick up a motor for $400 get home and find out it has more problems than I currently have now or its been ran to piss and needs a rebuild anyway. Its not a money issue its a fact of me not wanting to have to rip the motor apart and get it to a state that I would like it at. If i wanted to do that i'd use my current motor.
