Nope, no exageration. I lived in Pa, went to school in DE. I turned 16 in May, wasn't scheduled for Drivers Ed until September of the following school year. I had my learners permit for 6 months before my birthday. I took the driving test on the day of my birthday, passed it (my mother didn't think I would) and received my license that day. Still have the actual license at home, yes, it was a license.

    Cool.

I flew an airplane solo (C-172) on my 16th birthday. (Student Pilot's License)

I got my driver's permit the very next day which was a Monday.

Passed my road test exactly 1 month later which was the required waiting period in NY at that time.

Then on my 17th birthday I passed my Private Pilot Flight Test (C-172) and took my friends flying.

And on the same day my NY Junior Drivers license automatically became a senior drivers license.

It was pretty ironic that I could fly an airplane solo before I could drive a car by myself...
