  • Need Help Desperately!!!

2000 Camaro 3.8 A4, Ok so here's the problem, car starts fine and will run for 5-15 sometimes even 20min in varying driving conditions, before it starts bogging and surging and just horribly running, but it has yet to actually quit, although it might as well have. I've changed the fuel filter, cleaned the PCV, replaced the 2 upstream 02 sensors (they were bad) and still the problem continues. Plugs and wires, along with a TB cleaning were done like 5,000 miles ago, but the car does have 23X,XXX miles on it. Any ideas? The only code that comes up now is the rear o2 sensor but !cat.

+1 I had similar issues with mine and it ended up being the MAF sensor. Maybe try cleaning it and see if that might help before digging into a fuel pump.

I don't believe his MAF could be the problem since it does take some time for the problem to occur. If the MAF is giving false readings it would act up pretty quickly upon startup before open loop set in. I think.

True. The issue I had only happened on occasion it was pretty strange. The car would start sputtering a bit, and die and it never happened all the time. I decided to unplug the MAF and run it and that fixed the issue. Replaced the MAF and never had the problem again. Just figured It may be worth a shot, and couldn't hurt. Clean MAF's are happy MAF's!

Oh, i'm not saying you're wrong. On occasion there are weird happenings as such and it's damn near impossible for someone to diagnose online. So assuming all else is working as it should be, the fuel pump would typically be the culprit.

However, he did have the TB cleaned recently so I'd almost assume the MAF was taken care of as well. Hm. However, if it wasn't done properly that could very possibly be a problem.

I think I'll still stick with the fuel pump though. But not a bad idea.

Ah didn't notice he cleaned the TB. Yeah I'm just hoping its not his fuel pump, I hate fuel pumps on fbodies :(

They're not too bad when you use the trap door method. I've had mine out a couple of times. The only problem I ever have is putting it back in and getting the arm to sit just right.

Thanks for all the quick input, ill definitely try the MAF just in case cause im really not looking foward to doing the fuel pump thing. I know the trap door location can change for different years, any idea on the specific location for 2000?

They're not too different.. If you have enough sheet metal and weather stripping you'll be alright. There's a write up around here somewhere with pics.. I'll try to find the link but, no promises.

I found the thread but its all pics that don't work anymore. I think ill just cut the door big to accomodate the lines like SSMS did. Will the pump from a 95 z28 work as a replacement?
