It was reallllly hot today and didnt seem like my Firebird liked it, the temp gauge was going over the 210 mark and I topped off the antifreeze last week so i know its not low on that. I'm just wondering what i could do to prevent it from doing that again because I could tell the car was just not running right at all.
Do I need a new radiator? Thermostat? any ideas would help.

Well had new engine put in 2 years ago prolly blew last engine because of the same problem haha, Radiator has 150k miles on it so I wouldnt really be upset if I did have to buy a new Radiator/Thermostat. Both fans were blowing so I guess thats a good sign, had to replace a fuse one time on those because it was overheating.

I dont know what temp the fans are turning on at. Yea 210 is normal, but it was running over that, 230-240 range.
But my mechanic said he'd replace the radiator tomorrow and whatever but Im just wanting to make sure that I should, like i said 150k on the radiator and 90k on thermostat. But if i do get new radiator what one should i go with?

Yea, what thermo you got 160 hypertech? I tried buying that once, and the douche at Autozone was telling me 160 is too low for stock radiator. Think he thought I had a 195 stock thermo but I think 99 birds had 180 right?

well first. it does not matter what thermo you have.
i guess really all depends on what climate you live in.
if its cold all the time where youare. then the 180 is prolly good.
but since its usually warm (remotely) then the 160 or the modded thermo. will do.
the stock radiator is fine.
only time youll ever need anything different is when you have actuall WORK done on the moter. where more heat is then created.
but yeah
autozone is retarto.
i called them the other day and asked for blinker fluid....
(he checked)
my car always runs right below 210 today its stayed at 210 for a while i opened the bleed valve because i just did a full radiator flush and air came out but then fluid and air then fluid on and off how long do i have to bleed the car for? its real hot here in miami should i get a 160 thermo?
being in miami. you could definitly do with the 160. and also buy a coolant temp sensor set for the same temp.
so the fans will turn on the same time the coolent enters the engine.
and if you want best results. take the thermo out and gut the valve and just leave the top metal peice (the part that fits right into the slot under the coolent connecter arm.) by having that youll definitly stay cool and WILL NEVER overheat. (being that you maintain it)
