I have a 1997 3.8 Camaro that makes a tick/click noise under medium to hard acceleration. It almost sounds like a ratchet clicking. Sounds like its coming from the drivers side of the engine bay. Any ideas? Doesnt always do it.
Get a length of hose, put one end to your ear, and while the engine is running, press the other end around the driver's side of the engine untill you find where the tickig is coming from (valve covers, middle of the block, oil pan, etc). That'll narrow down the possible culprits. It would be lifter tick, an exaust leak, or somethig bad, like a loose internal part. I'd park it either way, untill you sort out the problem.
My car started making a noise similar to yours, which then turned into a slight squealing. Check my oil stick and had the tell-tale coolant/oil brown **** come out. Now I'm doing an engie swap. You'd be better off if you catch a problem early, lol.
If it is doing so under Acceleration only, then I suspect that the car is pinking under load, some of the possible suspects are bad gas or low octane, faulty Airflow or Map Sensor they don't normally through a code but worth checking.
Well I'm not sure how Id do the hose thing because it only does it under load when under acceleration going down the road. I have the stock log style manifolds and the passenger side one makes a tick noise when I turn off the car like its really hot.
Sometimes it feel like the acceleration just kind of "flatens out" like the power lacks up top. All of the sensors are stock with 158,000 miles on them. I would suspect bad gas but I've probably head this noise 4 times in 1.5 years. So its not a constant thing thats scary just something that raises questions.

is the engine bogging down when you hear this noise?
^^^ That could be it! The EGR valve was setting off my SES light. It would come on when it was really hot outside(80degrees++) Then it just disappeared and it hasnt came on in weeks.
To put it under load, set the parking brake, and have someone give it gas (and hold the brake) while you check for the noise. Just don't stand in front of the car while doing it.
Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
