I know installing new mounts usually calls for an engine crane, but my question is , would it be safe to put a block of wood under the oil pan and use a jack to lift the engine? Or is there another place i could jack the engine up enough to get to the mounts?

Re: replacing motor mounts?
When we changed the mounts on my friends car, we jacked up the front of the car, and then lowered it onto a stack of 2x4's, so that the 2x4's were under the oil pan, lifting it just enough to free the mounts... We tried it first the way you described, but since the jack had wheels, it just wasn't stable enough for our liking... it wasn't easy getting the height of the 2x4's just right, but it was better than the pan slipping off the jack while we had the mounts out... also we only did one side at a time so that we could keep the height of the car just right for each mount...
hope this helpsRebuilding the engine... Building a custom front end... T-top conversion... Custom rear hatch..
Custom interior...
