  • Flashing Check Engine and Sputtering!

so this morning i started my car as i always do, let it warm for about a minute and then started driving. everything was fine then all of a sudden when i came to a stop at a stop sign the idle became rough and sputtery - then i went to give it gas and it was hesitating and sputtering and the check engine light flashed a few times?

within the last 10K miles I have done fuel filter, coils, wires and plugs...any ideas?

First thing i'd do is have the codes read, to see why the SES light came on.

Then add !!!!*trans-X*!!!! to the fuel system!

I know this is an early assumption, but right off hand Id say CAT. Or Id at least check that while you wait to get the codes...

Check to see if any of the plug wires have touched the manifolds and melted. Pretty common after a plug wire change and will cause your misfire and loss of power....

flashing SES usually signifies an engine misfire. Inspect the wires and plugs for any issues. Even with 10k miles they can start arcing or one is a bit loose

                  what he said..

if it's not the wires it could be an o2 sensor. I know when one of mine went bad it was reading really lean, so it was telling the computer to add a bunch of unnecessary fuel causing the car to run bad and misfire

What about the gas filter????????????????????????????? I replaced mine and I looked at the old one and there was plenty of particulate matter in it. They are not expensive.

Re: Flashing Check Engine and Sputtering!

my car had been doing this over the last few weeks, exact same symtoms, and i pulled the codes numerous times getting almost a different code every time the only consistent code was p0650 MIL Indicator Malfunction. Couldnt figure it out cause sometimes it would do it and sometimes it would run fine until monday it died twice on the way home from work. Thought maybe fuel pump went out but hooked up a guage when i got home and fuel pressure was steady so i started wiggling wires everywhere trying to get it to die again and when i wiggled some around the computer the fuel pressure dropped to 5lbs and the car died so i unplugged the comp and somehow water had gotten in to the bottom plug and coroded about 6 of the plugs on the computer and 3 of those 6 were broke off in the plug....bought a new computer and plug had the comp flashed by the local dealer and all problems went away

fudge. this sounds like the problem. my a/f gauge is reading extremely lean :(

figures the only time it comes in useful us when there is a problem

did your car wreak of gas when this happened?

cant remember if it smelt like gas or not, but it would misfire on slight acceleration and then it would eventually go away when the car was hot

my car is misfiring at idle - cold or hot - and while diriving - cold or hot. The engine light keeps flashing.

I stopped driving it just incase.
