  • Brake light issue

    Hey everyone.

I got a 94 V6 Firebird and there is this brake light issue that I have been unable to solve. For some reason, the right brake light refuses to work and the Left brake light works but is dimmer than it should be. My tail lights come on, but once I hit the brake the right one goes blank. I've tried new bulbs, and the fuse looks good.

Ive had this issue since I bought the car and the tail lights even when their on seem a bit dimmer than they should be.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

    Re: Brake light issue

Sounds to me like a ground issue,

check the wires on the tailights make sure they arent frayed or corroded, trace them to the ground and clean it up..

That should take care of the problem.

X2, on my 94 FB, I have had to change the sockets more than once. Also, think about going with LED bulbs. They run cooler and draw less amps. Havn't changed the sockets since I went with led's.

          Re: Brake light issue

Okay. I started investigating the brake light connections area and all the wires looked good. Then I found this plug wire that wasn't plugged into anything(There are brake light wires that connect to this plug). Its a long cord, so I looked in all the areas that it could reach and I couldn't find a place to connect it.

I'm not sure if this is whats causing my problems, but lines do connect to it. Do any of you guys recognize this plug? Do you know where it goes?

          Heres some pics of it:

That looks like a plug somebody spliced in-line for a trailer hook-up. Might be the source of your problem.

^ The car does have a trailer hitch(previous owner must have done that). I'm gonna get back in there and see what I can do.

              Thanks.
