  • Noise in Rear - Clunk, pop & whirring

Ok, just replaced my caliper, pads and axle seal/bearing on the driver rear (yeah the bearing was gone so it toasted everything). I had the whirring and clunk noise before. It was gone for about two days after install and now its 10 times worse. I get a real loud rattle noise (didnt before) when Im just barely on the gas; not during decel or accel.

Could Ive screwd something up? Missed the actual cause? Shoot me some ideas... ;)

What did the axle look like where the wheel bearing rides?

By " quite worn" do you mean it had a groove where the bearing rides?

            Yes...

But it was quite for a couple of days. Id imagine something would have to change in order for a noise to appear...

Yea, those few days is how long it took the bad axle to kill the new bearing.

If you have time you can find single axles on ebay at a fair price. 98 and up should all interchange unless you have 4 channel ABS. Then you would need another 4 channel axle.

Not sure which I have!? I thought the 98's were the odd ball, not like the 99'~02'

Im obviously not sure though LOL

Brakes on the 98 up are all the same. The 4 channel ABS ale will have the reluctor wheel on the axle, the 3 channel will not, but if it is there is does not hurt anything.

Re: Noise in Rear - Clunk, pop & whirring

Ok issue was that the lugs were loose (3), one bolt was completely broken and gone, and the other stripped. SO yeah that was that issue.

New issue, I think the axle is so worn that the seal cant hold the oil in :( poop

No matter how bad the axle is... How is it that the axle is smaller than the seal?!
