To bypass the heater core, do I just splice those two heater hoses together?

Re: Heater Core Bypass
I haven't done the bypass yet...because I am still trying to diagnose the overheating issue. Today I filled her back up with water/coolant and turned on the heat. The air never got hot, and I witnessed it overflowing out the overflow cap.
Does that mean my heater core is clogged and it is causing the coolant to divert back to the overflow?

Re: Heater Core Bypass
Ok time for an update.
New battery is in. It runs just fine. I drove it home and got a bit of steam comming up out the cowl.
It had not overheated yet after about an hour of driving and idleing. When I got it home it did dump a bunch of coolant on the ground. But the coolant was cold. I am thinking it might have come the section heater hose I bypassed, because it was cold. And that could have explained the steam too.
