Im back :-( Today when I went to work I tried to turn my car off and the key won't switch back to the off postion anymore. I think I need to go ahead and replace the Lock Cylinder. Is there anyway I can get the one I have now working again? I had to pull the fuse to turn off the ignition and unplug the battery to get the car turned off. Its stuck in the start position and wont switch back to shut off the car. When the car is running it will press forward easily and make that scraping sound but it wont get back to normal. pls help or give some advice on what can be done.

p.s come to find out my rear tire had a big gash in it that merchants and persision tune seemed to had missed when they did the front end diagnostic. soooooo there wasn't anything wrong with my front end but thanks for all of the advice you guys gave me!

I had something similar like this happen. It ended up being that little copper/brass thing that lets you know your key is still in the ignition. You have to pull this off to get to the screw that holds the lock cylinder in place. Pull you wheel, unbolt this little peice and see if that fixes you problem. If it does, just remember to take you keys before you lock your doors.

if its the lock cylinder you need to replace it, no way to "repair" a locked up cylinder.

Also you took it in for a front end inspection....not a rear inspection nor a full car inspection so why would they look at the rear tire? When you take a car in for a front end inspection all the compenents in the front end are checked that could be worn or broken.... ie swaybar links, bearings, bushings, tie rods, ball joints, etc.

I had to replace my whole colunm for $85 since my key locked up and wouldn't come out. Put in a 01' SS column in my 96' Camaro . Yes , a front end inspection they don't look at the rears like 97rs4life said they check the front for allignment, worn parts, the rear should be easy to do just by jacking it up and looking at it and making sure everything is TQ down properly.
