CLR is an acid, it could eat a hole in it and then he will have a bigger problem. If its that bad it needs to be replaced.

Hmm, well just make sure you flush it out really well. I had a customer once that had a drain line back up into a drain pan, they poured draino into the drain pan, and basicly after about a month the drain pan was rusted out. But i guess clr is much more mild then draino...lol...i guess its worth a try.
