Nothing exciting or important, just wanted to share...
My '93 Firebird is my daily driver. I can afford a new car at anytime, but I don't want one. I like my '93 and I am keeping it as my DD.
1. Last week I smelled a tiny odor of coolant inside the car. Hmmmm, heater core starting to go...
2. I was driving over the weekend and I saw a small puff of steam come from the right side of the hood. I look at the temp gauge and it shows about 170 which is normal for my car (160 stat). I pull over and sure enough the upper radiator hose has a tiny pin hole and is spraying coolant on to the engine. So, I drive home (1/2 mile), shut it down and change into some work clothes.
3. After the car cooled down, I drained the coolant and started inspecting. Top hose no good, bottom hose looks and feels pretty bad, heater hoses not looking good, TB hoses not looking good. Upon inspection in the car, sure enough passenger side carpet is in fact the tiniest bit moist.
4. 3 hours later, new upper hose, new lower hose, bypassed heater core, no more heater hoses or pipes, new TB hoses, fresh coolant. Total cost was about $40.
Car runs great, nice and cool, and I sure don't need heat down here in Miami. And now I have the piece of mind that I will not have any cooling issues for quite some time.
:)
