Re: How do I know AC compressor is working

That's an interesting spot for a leak. Good job finding it. If welding or soldering doesn't work, I'd look in the junkyard for a replacement. Don't use those leak sealers, those are crap.

JB weld it, its ALM so trying to weld it won't be fun. If a 96' will work , I have 2 good used ones.

i'll second the JB weld suggestion if you dont just replace it ... rough it up good with some sand paper and go all the way around the tube with the jb weld ... it may hold

I almost forgot.... You need to evacuate the system because it has air and moisture in it. If there had still been refrigerant under pressure, it wouldn't be an issue. But since you had a hole in the metal, air has been sucked into the system. Even though the moisture may not be that much of an issue, you've still got air in there that is going to displace your R143A, so you'll never get as much in there as you should have.

This thread describes how I evacuated my system and it worked great

Be careful not to over charge the system. There is also an oil that is supposed to be in the system to help lubricate. So I would be careful with charging the system with one of those cans that you can pick up at Autozone.

I also suggest going to a repair shop that has an AC recharge machine.

r134 has the oil in it. Don't waste your money at a shop.

Hmm, guess I learn something new everyday. Didn't know R134 had the oil already in it.

Only the ones that state they have oil in there actually contain oil.
