• what is my next logical mod??

Hey, I just bought my car a few weeks ago and am starting to get a bit of money saved up again to put towards some mods. I have a flowmaster exhaust and the other stuff in my signature. What would be the next logical mod to get for my car?? I was thinking either an intake like a ram-air kit or a lid. Or possibly going from the stock 3.08 gears to 3.42/3.73's. What would make the most sense and give me the biggest change? I have about $200 to spend right now, but I could save up a couple hundred more within a few more weeks too if anything else would be a good idea. What do you guys think?

oh yeah, one other thing I was wondering about. What about a shift kit like the TransGo? Do those make a big difference? How much would any of these mods be to install?? Thanks guys!

I'd get gears, and do all the free induction mods(shave the fins outa the box, replace the silencer with a pcv tube, and the free ram air mod) and buy a k&n or power shot filter,I woulden't pay for a 98+ induction unless it was a volant

I've already got a K&N from the previous owner. I think I'm gonna try to do some free mods this weekend. What is a Volant induction?? I havent heard of them before, or at least seen them advertised anywhere. Where could I get one of those from? My friend told me gears would be felt the most if I wanted to upgrade something. I guess I should make a post in the drivetrain section with more ?'s about that. But if you have a link to the volant, could you let me know? I just wanna find the cheaper mods to get the most horsepower for my car Thanks!

Gears will be hard to buy and have installed for just $200. They usually require about 400+. A jump from 3.08 to 3.42 is like gaining 22 horsepower. The more worth while approach would be to do what I am most do - swap to a posi rear at the same time. over all pay more, but cheaper than having them done separately. And the traction gained is night and day.

If you have 200, I'd get the Fast Toys Ram Air system. The Volant system looks cool, and seems to fit well, but without an Ultra Z hood I don't see how it's pulling in cold air, unless it works off the same premise as the FTRA. In that case, whichever you prefer. Although, in searcing for the Volant system, I noticed that there isn't a 3.8L application. '00 and up 3.8's won't be a problem, but the '98-'99 will because the throttle body is slanted down, instead of straight like the LS1.

it all depends what you want to do.. you want some more speed?? then yeah gears and posi would be a step in the right direction.. if you aren't dead set on go fast goodies.. subframe connectors would be a good mod..

Good point! Subframes or Lower Control Arms. Those will also help to plant the tires and relieve you of wheel hop. while fitting your budget.

Thanks for all the responses. I think I'm gonna do the free mods first this weekend and see if those net me any noticeable gains, then I'll decide on buying a lid/ram-air kit. I think I'm gonna look into getting gears though. I figure it'd cost quite a bit more than $200, but I have summer coming up soon with no school so I can work for a lot more money then. Maybe I can get them towards the end of spring or something. Would I have to have a mechanic install these, or are they relatively easy to install? I'm no where near a master mechanic, but I do alright figuring things out. But gears sound cool, I don't really care too much about going top speed, just stoplight racing mainly, so those would be cool. would one of the Jet modules reconfigure everything with the speedometer and add some performance on top of that? thanks for all the input guys. Should I ask all these gear questions under drivetrain, or is it ok in general?? Later ~Jason

I was under the impression that a volant only works with ram air hoods. True or not? Anyboyd notice any great performance benefits? I have a stock air box and just cut out the two nostrils in my stock hood. Raised the air box three washers. Cost for my mod, $6 including the pieces of aluminum, screws, and screen. Maybe $0.50 for the washers

BTW, people told me NO to a shift kit. If you want to reprogram You can search for an HPPIII for about 200-250
