It is sort of confusing somtimes reading some of the kill stories and things on this board because everyone seems to say the 3.8 has good low end to beat most 4 cylinders off the line but then in top end they get killed. My car seems the opposite. Ive raced many cars at the street 1/4 mile and always the same outcome so far. I always get beat low end, all the way through first gear but once i hit second i fly by. For example i raced a newer prelude v-tec this weekend. well he killed me off the line up till about 40 and then i started to pull top end and kept pulling and ended up beating him in the 1/4 by 1/2 a car length. Similar races were the same when i raced a celica gts, same thing happened except i beat him a little worse. Has anyone else experianced this same sort of thing. The only mods i have are the slp ram air mod, no silencer, toyo proxes tires, and the b&b catback exhaust.

My 3.4L always takes cars from low end(Off the line) and then since the 3.4 top end sucks I usually get passed on the top end by some cars, but it also depends on what speed I go up to. But since my headers are leaking really bad right now ive been loosing to cars that I usually beat. I didnt know headers effected my cars performance that bad  .2002 Grand Prix GTP- FWI Intake , flowmaster 40\'s ,3.4 pulley , and Intense racing PCM.<br />94 3.4L camaro -Lots of mods!

Its probably your launch technique. The best thing to do is go to the track and work on your 60-foot times.
If you have an open diff, you can spin through first fairly easily, especially with stock tires. If I am on a level surface so as not to induce any wheel hop. A launch at 2000 to 3000 RPM will light up first gear, and I won't really catch traction till about mid second gear. But none the less, it doesn't rocket forward spinning radials but it does move.
If you can get traction (may have to go with aftermarket parts in order to hook up well). But F-bodies are one of the best traction making machines if properly tuned and outfitted.
You should be able to take almost any FWD car off the line as is, even with a soft launch. Even high powered FWD's. In fact, due to the physics of a launch, the more power you have the more you'll just sit there and torque steer with a FWD car. A FWD car is more worse than a rear drive/independant rear suspension car when it comes to traction on launches.
I remember running with a hopped up Prelude once. I revved at him and he seemed to ignore it, So I left him alone. At green the guy bursts out of the hole. So I go after him with a regular driving launch out of first gear. And I was still at his rear fender. He never pulled away from me, but because of my launch it took me till about the low end of 4th gear before I passed him up.
Even if you lose at the line, so long as you win on the top end of the track, people don't really have anything negative to say. Unless its an actual grudge-match. Then there seems to be some respect and honor in taking someone off the line, even if you lose.
I happen to feel that is a sore losers way of lessenging his defeat by only "half-losing", I say if you had the car setup to take someone off the line, and couldn't fend them off, you lossed to sheer lack of power.
Everyone wants to win the hole thing.
Reaction Time, 60-foot, 1/8th, Quarter, and trap speed. But, hey you get the win light, you'll get a thumbs up from me. In racing, sometimes they can be so close, the launch is what will dictate the winner. So get them LCA's, the posi...

There is one thing i forgot to mention in my post. i have an auto. When i floor it off the line i do not lose a bit of traction, That is due to my toyo's. I used to spin with my stock tires. One question i have then is if i should powerbrake off the line. Would that really help my 60' times? Also i will admit my reaction time isn't the best. I'm working on it though. thanks for the help so far.2002 camaro SS 6 speed, black, with black leather: Whisper lid/filter<br /> 98 silver camaro v6 a4(sold)<br />few mods

Yes, you should. And the B&B took some low end away. YES!!!
BTW I will decimate almost anything in 1st gear, my low end OWNS. Top end is not as grandiose but it's still powerful.

still has kick due to the first gear ratio. In fact. At a stop, I've even smoked the tire with a second gear start with stock 3.08's.<b>15.41</b> @ 89.80 & 15.45 @ <b>91.64</b>, 2.21 60ft, 3,440 raceweight, using <b>OEM</b> Equipment. <br />\'98 L67/M49 w/ 134,000 miles before spun bearing. \"<i>It\'s all stock, Baby</i>!\"
