  • Z28 cluster on a v6

Yes yes i know this tread is out but there are many back and forths,i have a simple question? i currently have a 1996 3.8 camaro with a 125mph speedo,my friend is getting rid of his entire guage cluster from his 1996 z28 camaro, heres the question? if i swap his entire cluster on to my dash would this work on my car, would the speed read correctly since the gauge has smaller increments up to 150mph? i was told that everything would work except the tach which is the RPM's is this true and how can i fix this?please if you are not sure do not comment or state that you are unsure, thanks.

I dont THINK it would work correctly but I could be wrong. Also the tach will be off as well.

In all honesty, if he's your friend, he should let you borrow it and try it out first.

Time yourself from marker-to-marker when doing something like 20mph on the speedometer. Use the cruise control if you want to make sure it's accurate. If the time matches with the new speedo, you're in luck.

The tach will most likely be different though.

tach will be off, used to be a company that made a piggyback adapter to adjust the tach. Something like Dakota gauges or something seems to ring a bell with me, but it has been years since people were talking about this so I could be wrong on the name

Not sure why you think you need the cluster in though, how often do you look down when going 120+mph and even then do you have your speed limiter removed?

how? the only way is to get the bulb tabs from a 97 or higher since our bulbs dont just pop out.

Mine is a 96' and I have white face overlay and at night it lights up blue. The overlay itself is powered to light up. Looks outstanding at night and I can read the gauges better during the day.

I have red LEDs in my 96, just twist the socket out and remove the stock bulb and add the LEDs.. you will need 7 194 LEDs or 10 if you want to do the turn and high beam indicator.\

that doesn't make any sense.unless it's a bird and it they are different but in the 1996 camaro you cannot remove the bulb from the tab the filament is welded on.

yes, you can just break the stock bulb lose and take the ends of the LEDs and wrap around the metal brackets. I don't have any pics any more, but heres a crappy video

my old malibu the tabs were soldered, just take a small screw driver and drag it across the solder firmly and it breaks, or you could cut the wire, or you could even heat it up, then just wrap the wire up against the bulb base and slide the new LED's in

                          very easy to do
